Supply Chain Maturity Model (SCMM)
The industry standard framework for evaluating supply chain excellence. Developed by Dr. Robert Handfield at NC State University.

The Six Dimensions
Five Maturity Levels
Each dimension is assessed on a 5-level scale, from reactive and unstructured (Level 1) to industry-leading and optimized (Level 5).
Level 1: Ad Hoc
Reactive, unstructured processes with minimal documentation
Level 2: Defined
Basic processes established with some documentation
Level 3: Managed
Integrated, measured processes with cross-functional coordination
Level 4: Leveraged
Optimized, value-creating processes with strategic focus
Level 5: Optimized
Industry-leading, innovative practices with continuous improvement
Composite Performance Index (CPI)
Beyond traditional maturity scoring, the framework includes a 0-100 scale Composite Performance Index (CPI) that combines four critical performance dimensions to provide a holistic view of supply chain health.
Wall Street Journal Partnership
Since 2019, SCMM provides supply chain assessment data for the Drucker Institute's Management Top 250 ranking (published by WSJ)—contributing to the Innovation and Social Responsibility categories within the broader 5-dimension ranking methodology.
Sector-Specific Intelligence
Different industries prioritize different capabilities. The SCMM uses tailored weights for 6+ major sectors to provide contextually relevant assessments.
